WSC Turf Complex Project

Lowry Engineering partnered with Icon Architectural Group, on the WSC Turf Complex project. The basis of this project, was converting both baseball and softball diamonds at Williston State College to synthetic turf.

While the existing natural grass fields were designed with some slope for drainage, artificial turf is required to be essentially flat. To ensure the turf performed properly,  we needed to design an extensive underground storm drainage system, with larger trunk storm sewer along the perimeter of the fields.  Both fields were graded to have very minimal slope (according to turf design standards) and flat drain tile was installed every 40’ within the playing fields. A watermain, which served part of campus and ran under the softball field,  was also rerouted around the perimeter.

Additional design elements included new sidewalks connecting fields and adjacent campus sidewalks, along with fences and backstops to meet NCAA specifications.

This project is estimated to cost $5.6 million.
